About the Projects:
From the Inside Out: Exploring Issues of Mental Health through Interactive TheaterFrom the Inside Out is a project offering participatory workshops and interactive theater performances to explore issues of mental health. The plays are performed for people dealing with mental health issues, family, friends, supporting professionals and the general public. From the Inside Out strives to break the silence and misunderstandings around mental health and to practice healthy communication while countering oppression. We empower people affected by mental health in order to facilitate strengthened communities, inclusiveness and recovery while growing confidence and creative problem-solving.
“This is so much fun –I love how it brings people together, gets people involved and allows us to really learn from one another in a dynamic way. I also love how this format allows us to share and explore our feelings around concepts like discrimination.” - From the Inside Out Actor
An Audacious FaithAn Audacious Faith highlights the activism and civic engagement of a handful to Oregonians who worked hard in their times for the civil and human rights of oppressed communities. These people are merely examples, representatives for the thousands of other Oregonians whose names have been lost but who struggled for their own liberation and the freedom of others. Here are some of the stories highlighted in An Audacious Faith: Chief John held out until the end in the war between his tribe and the U.S. government. Chan Hon Fan refuted the idea that the Chinese should be excluded from this country. Abigail Scott Duniway fought for her right to vote. Ida and Zerlina Lowenberg helped Jewish immigrants find their place in this state. Beatrice Morrow Cannady crusaded for African Americans to have access to public accommodations. Minoru Yasui challenged the right of the government to intern Japanese Americans. The Colegio Cesar Chavez strove to give Mexican Americans a college education. |
